(November 23, Skopje) Foundation for Sustainable Economic Development PREDA Plus, in the Hotel Continental, Skopje organized the First International Conference on Regional Development in the Western Balkans 2011.
The conference attended about 100 participants, representatives of municipalities, agencies for economic, regional and rural development, policy makers, ministers, ambassadors and practitioners from different countries: Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Croatia . They presented the situation in respective country from different perspectives, and their views on regional development and cooperation among the countries of Western Balkans.
The conference, which had a number of constructive suggestions for improving the implementation of regional development policy, it was concluded that this policy on the national governments of each country is an important segment and concept for further development. Therefore, national governments of each country separately should give greater support to regional development policy of their country, but also for development od the region.
This policy of recipient countries in the Western Balkans is also supported by the international community, because regional development is a basic development concepts of the European Union as well.
As an important conclusion of this conference was highlighted the need and importance of mutual networking of all relevant stakeholders for regianal development of the Western Balkans. Soon it is expected formalization of the process.
The next international conference on regional development is scheduled for next year in Kosovo.
